  • Overview

    Responsible for managing tasks related to the organization’s safety programs.  Promotes all aspects of Risk Management throughout the organization by cultivating a positive reporting and Just Culture.  Reviews all operational aspects of the organization to assess and makes recommends to mitigate potential negative outcomes from occurring.  Requires a certain degree of creativity and latitude. 

    Responsibilities

    • Regional Safety Director (RSD) is directly responsible and accountable to the Director of Safety.
    • Possesses a working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requirements within the air ambulance industry.
    • Conduct root cause analysis investigations and provides necessary recommendations on reports or allegations received from the various company reporting systems as assigned.
    • Coordinates and works closely with regional; clinical, operations, and maintenance directors on a routine basis.
    • Provide guidance to Base Safety Representatives (BSR) on safety related issues within their assigned region.
    • Educate company personnel, vendors, and partners by communicating all aspects of corporate safety philosophy and initiatives.
    • Measures company policies and regulatory compliance by conducting base audits and System Process Evaluations (SPE).
    • Assign and monitor Corrective Action & Preventive Action (CAPA) plans for unsatisfactory findings during audits.
    • Continually monitor regional operational activities to assist in identifying hazards, risks, and negative exposure to the operation.
    • Assist in the facilitation of systems’ risk management (SRM) process with applicable disciplines.
    • Assist with an analysis of operational activities, and providing a monthly overview report of the assigned region.
    • Participate in base, regional, and corporate level safety meetings and conference calls as required.
    • Serve as the regional leadership teams’ safety advisor.
    • Conduct other duties as assigned by Director of Safety

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

    • Ability to travel 30 to 50 percent
    • Maintain currency in all job-related certifications and training qualifications
    • Ability to reference, interprets, and applies company policies, procedures, and external regulations associated with key operating processes and job tasks.
    • Provides excellent customer service by maintaining a cooperative and harmonious relationship with both internal and external customers.
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Demonstrated ability to analytically resolve technical and logistical issues, while working collaboratively with a diverse team

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    •  Degree in Aviation Safety or other related fields preferred.
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or International Society of Safety Professionals (ISSP) certification
    • Possess above-average teaching and public speaking ability
    • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills, including the writing of safety newsletter articles and public presentations

     

    Experience

    • Five (5) or more years of operational experience within air medical transportation industry with previous supervisory experience. Must have an understanding of Safety Management Systems and Just Culture.

    Physical Demands

    • Entails exposure to indoor and outdoor weather conditions, moderate exposure to routine office noises, electrical or mechanical hazards and frequent exposure to an aircraft hangar environment where the employee may be exposed to loud aircraft noise, fumes, gases, odors, dust particles and mechanical/electrical and chemical hazards.
    • The assigned work environment may include hospitals and/or airports.
    • The expected environment includes outdoor operations in most all weather conditions during all times of the day or night.
    • Travel to assigned bases is expected to consume 50% of available time.
    • Involves a moderate amount of standing, sitting and walking.
    • Requires close and distant visual capability.
